Smolni Chamber Chorus

Smolni Chamber Chorus - is one of the most famous choral ensembles of St.-Petersburg and was been founded in 1991. The founders are Stanislav Legkov, Andrey Petrenko and Edward Krotman. In 2004 National artist of Russia Vladimir Begletsov became the main conductor and the art director of chorus. Youth of the maestro, his experience with the Academic chapel, long-term teaching experience in Choral school of Glinka - promoted original blossoming of chorus.

Smolni Chamber Chorus performs very diversified music: Russian and West European classics, chants. The chorus with equal perfection performs Shostakovich, Orf, Penderetsky, Shnitke and Stravinsky. Today's mastery level of Chorus corresponds with the interests of its art director. Practically each of the thirty-two vocalists, graduated from the St.-Petersburg conservatory, and can perform a solo part.

According to definition "chamber", which is present in the name of the chorus, the art director achieves mastery of the sound and his attention is always involved in the smallest details. At the same time, the Smolni chamber chorus presents with big success such monumental compositions as Verdi's "Requiem" or Rakhmaninov’s «Nightlong vigil». Smolni Chamber chorus – is a quite a modern ensemble.

Chorus has a manner of European ease for performance and harmonization of themes that is organically combined with Russian fullness of a timbre. Chorus performs in cathedrals all over St-Petersburg, in Philharmonic Hall, Chapel halls, takes part in numerous festivals. Went on tour in Holland, Spain, Poland, Slovenia and Estonia. Also chorus has creative partners – symphonic orchestras of the St.-Petersburg philharmonic society, the State Hermitage, the State chapel; conductors N.Alekseev, V.Gergiev, A.Dmitriev, K.Kord, V.Nesterov, K.Penderetsky, G.Rozhdestvensky, S.Sondetskis, J.Temirkanov, V.Chernushenko and others.
